Course Correction

Course CorrectionToday I am coming to you with a note about course correction.  I mentioned last week that I was recently at a mastermind meeting.  One of the things we talked a lot about is a little concept called course correction. As entrepreneurs, we have a vision of ourselves that everything is supposed to be perfect and in line and that we should be moving in a straight line without ever looking to the side or without needing to make any changes. The reality is — that is just not how entrepreneurship is. As you are going along in your entrepreneurial experience, you really should be course correcting. In today’s video I share a few reasons why.

Here are a few reasons why:

  1. If you are on a path and you are so focused on sticking exactly to that path, it probably means that you are being very perfectionist about your business, and as a result, are not moving forward as quickly as you could be.  So stop being so perfectionist and just move forward! Recognize that along the way you are going to make tweaks and changes and that’s okay.
  2. No one gets everything right from the start.  Even if you think you are getting it perfect, somewhere along the way in your business you are going to realize “Oh gosh, you know what — there’s something about this that isn’t working.  I need to make a shift.”  You need to recognize that’s an okay thing to do. There is nothing wrong with that.
  3. Even the best entrepreneurs, the top entrepreneurs — people who are at the top of their game — course correct along the way.  I have no doubt that if you looked at what Steve Jobs did with Apple for years and years, you would find a lot of course correcting along the way.  Do you know why?  It’s because when you recognize that even if you are doing something well, you can be doing it better, you gotta go for better.  So take the opportunity to course correct.

Today’s Implementation Assignment:

My recommendation to you today is to accept course corrections in your business, recognize that they are part of the experience, and don’t put yourself down for them.  Don’t see yourself as failing because you had to make a tweak here or make a tweak there.  It’s really okay!  It’s what you are supposed to be doing as an entrepreneur.
