We all play many different roles in our lives. We may own a business, have a family, have responsibility for caring for our parents…the list goes on and on. To complicate matters, these responsibilities are in constant flux. We all have times when we have more or less freedom in our lives. Many business owners work with coaches and strategists and often come away frustrated. Coaches tend to focus first on business priorities and try to make all of your other priorities fit into this model. The truth of the matter is that you must look at your life as a whole and figure out what fits where if you want to be successful and happy in both your life and your business.
This week I encourage you to make a list of your all of your personal priorities. These may include:
- Responsibilities in your community such as volunteer work, religious activities, activities at your children’s school
- Responsibility to yourself such as making time for exercise, hobbies, etc.
Add to your list throughout the week. Whenever you find yourself playing a different role, write it on the list. Next week we are going to discuss your business priorities and how these fit in with all of the other responsibilities you have in your life.
Today’s Implementation Assignment
Make a list of all the non-business priorities in your life. Try to make the list as complete as possible.
