A Facebook Profile NO NO

Facebook Profile No NoAre you doing business on Facebook?  If you are, hopefully you already have a personal profile that is about connections and things you share with friends, and you also have a separate business page.  If you do not already have a separate business page, my message to you today is that you absolutely must put one together and make sure that all of the business stuff you are doing on Facebook is focused there. Here’s why…

The reason for this is that Facebook has recently cracked down on “business people” doing business on their personal profiles.  I actually heard at least one story about someone whose entire Facebook profile was taken down for this reason.  She lost all of her contacts, all of her groups, and all of her connections. I know you would not want this to happen to you!  I certainly would not want it to happen to me.

The bottom line is — if you are doing business on Facebook, make sure the focus for your business is on your business page and that you are using your personal profile for making connections with people and for your personal life.

Today’s Implementation Assignment:

Facebook is a great tool to build your business, but take heed.  If you are using Facebook for your business or plan to, make sure that you have a personal profile and a separate business page.  Focus your business activities on your business page and use your personal profile for making connections and sharing personal things.  Facebook is really starting to crack down on business being conducted on personal profiles.  Don’t get in trouble with Facebook!

I do have a separate business page but have also put some things business related on my personal page – like sharing if I am doing a free teleclass for example. Based on the new FB rules, do you think ALL business related posts should be removed from personal profile pages?

    Thanks!

Ramona, there is a huge gray area here. I would only add things to your personal profile as share’s from your business page and write about them in such a way that you are sharing what is going on in your business with friends. And I wouldn’t do it a whole lot. That’s my personal plan of action. 😉

Right now I have a separate page set up that I manage to lead a kIndness community. Do you know if I can convert that page to a Business Profile once I have have an official website & blog? I am not selling anything at this point, but hope it will eventually generate income in some way.
