Today my message for you is about insecurity. Recently, I did a teleclass that, for whatever reason, I was feeling an enormous amount of insecurity about leading up to, right before, and even in the middle of the class. It wasn’t that I didn’t know what I was talking about, because I definitely did. It was all material I have taught in different ways at different times before, but for some reason it just wasn’t gelling with me. You know that feeling when you are just about to leave the house and you say to yourself “I know I am forgetting something…” — it was that kind of a feeling.
I had people signed up for the class, so needless to say, I went through with it and it went fine. When I got to the end and hung up, I thought “Well, it’s okay. I don’t think it was great, but it was fine. I shared what I shared.”
A few minutes later my phone rang. It was a woman I have connected with online but have never met in person. She called to tell me she had been in the class and that she loved it — it was filled with great information, I did a great job, and I have a lovely voice. She was so kind and effusive about the information I shared and about the whole process.
It was a great reminder to me that there are all kinds of things that come up for us that can stop us from what we are doing. Usually, they are all a type of fear, and if we let them stop us, we won’t serve the people we are here to serve.
In this case, I am so glad that I served this woman and the others that have connected with me since the teleclass.
I wanted to share this story with you, because even those of us who are out there doing this regularly (I can’t tell you how many teleclasses I have done – a lot!), sometimes get that feeling of insecurity like I had. Really there was no need for it, and I am glad I pursued and got through instead of letting it stop me. Trust me — I seriously had a moment when I thought I should just cancel it.
Today’s Implementation Assignment:
We all feel insecure from time to time. Sometimes we even feel unsure about things we have done numerous times before. When you are feeling like you want to give up or stop yourself from taking that next step with whatever it is you are working on, don’t do it. Keep going, because you are serving someone by not giving up.
